New Grad, Novice Nurse...

Published

I am new to this site and I am not sure if I am using it correctly, but I have a question for those who have experience. I just graduated in May and I can't help but feel discouraged about how most facilities seem to only want those with experience. How can we get experience if no one is hiring new grads? If a job posting requires a minimum of one years experience should I apply anyway? Any advice would be extremely helpful!!!

I would apply anyway (emphasize what skills and experience you do have) you might get a response but you will definitely not get a response if you do not apply.

Specializes in pediatrics (student nurse preceptorship).

I've been applying to anything that asks for a year of experience or less, especially if they word it as "preferred" rather than "required". Granted that hasn't gotten me anywhere yet.... But it's almost impossible to find anything that doesn't ask for some experience. Like the other poster said, I just try to highlight any skills I have that would apply to the position. In some cases I underemphasize that I'm a new grad (I don't lie-- I just don't blatantly write "I am a new graduate" and let the rest of my application speak for itself.)

Good luck-- I'm in the same position!
