New Grad on Neuro-Tele

Published

Hey everyone,

I'm a new grad (ADN) that just passed boards and got hired on a PCU neuro-tele floor. I am lucky enough that this is the same floor I did my last semester clinical residency on, so I'm comfortable with the floor/staff/types of patients. However, I've got a few questions. What should I be reviewing prior to my orientation period starting next week? It's been four months since I've graduated and sometimes I feel like I've forgotten EVERYTHING. What did others find helpful to brush up on?

I'm actually starting day shift (which is basically unheard of for a new grad around here). I'm excited that I don't have to deal with the hassles of 7PM-7AM shifts, but I'm nervous about the extra hustle and bustle of days and dealing with doctors rounding all day (the part I felt least comfortable with during my residency period). Any advice on a new grad being thrown into the craziness of days?

Finally, and most importantly, any neuro-tele nurses out there with advice?

I'm also a new grad on a neuro/ortho/surgical - tele unit (3 floors, 1 unit)...

what kind of orientation are you getting? I had a week of general hospital orientation then 4 weeks with a preceptor and I was put through a tele class. I say go in with an open mind and take things as they come. One website that might be helpful is the taking a look at the NIH stroke scale and maybe looking into how to perform a neuro exam... We do the neuro's every 4 hours (I still bring in my cheat sheet, though, so don't worry about that)

congrats, though! I love the neuro floor when I'm on it!

Hello!

I see this is an older post but I am currently going through orientation and will start on a neuro/tele PCU floor next week. I recently graduated with an ADN as well. I would love any advice you have! What is your daily schedule/routine- from getting report, assessing patients, med admin, etc? What should I be reviewing before I get on to the floor? What do you wish someone told you coming on to that floor as a new grad? Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!
