Hey y'all! So I finally graduated in May and sitting for boards next Friday. Eeeek!! I've done clinical rotations at a few of the hospitals here and I'm having a hard time deciding where I'd like to work. I must be crazy, but I actually like Med-Surg..a lot! I also like neuro and icu. Any nurses out there locally that have any input on hospital experiences here? The experience I've had at Springhill was wonderful, I really enjoyed the nurses and I liked the feel of a smaller community type hospital, but I've heard they pay the lowest in our area. At the infirmary, I had mixed experiences, but I've heard they pay the most. Advice, thoughts, suggestions would be great!!

I have worked at both hospitals you mentioned. You will probably work harder in a med-surg job at the infirmary. If you want a lot of experience, have you considered the University of South Alabama hospitals? I worked at "the big house" and the children's hospital~ loved them both and learned a lot. As for pay, just take the job you think you will like the most, or the one closest to your home. Think about which hospital has the best benefit package. The difference in hourly pay is not enough to "make it or break it" in my opinion.

I started at thomas as a new grad earlier last year but was let go after only 2 months. It was awful. The infirmary was horrible to work for but that was just my experience. Good benefits though! I have 2 friends who work at springhill and they get paid very low compared to other hospitals in mobile and Baldwin counties. I hate med surg personally. I'm working it now but I HATE it!
