New grad market in California 2014?

So, I have been looking at these forums for the past couple years and I have noticed lately that there hasn't been much posts from new grads who are having trouble finding a job. I was wondering if this means the new grad market has picked up? New grads, how hard/easy has it been for you to find a job?

I am interested in hearing from RNs and LVNs.

Thanks!

I'm graduating in a week, and as far as I know, I'm the only person in my class (of 23) with an offer. I am also in the Bay Area. My offer comes from the unit where I precepted, and is in the area I plan to spend my career, so I am really excited!

There are a lot of openings for experienced nurses. But don't get discourage... There are also a lot of hospital with RN residency programs and many of them open their applications during Fall/Summer.

I suppose it depends on what part of california. Im in San Diego and having a terrible time finding anything. Not even an interview yet.

I received my LVN license in January. I have had one single interview in five months, they needed someone for NOC shift which I can't work unfortunately. I temped for 3 weeks at an Adult Daycare through an agency but they haven't been able to find something for me as a new nurse since that! It's been extremely frustrating and disheartening for someone so eager to start nursing career. It's also a blow to my confidence because in my previous field of work (dental) I had multiple offers at a time when I would look for employment.

I average about 2-3 resumes or applications a day online for jobs I find might give me a chance. It seems almost impossible to get hired without experience if you don't already know someone in nursing. I'm trying to stay optimistic and hope that I start getting phone calls soon from someone willing to take a chance on a new grad!

Good luck! I'm sure you'll get something if you keep trying. It's interesting that you worked in the dental field before becoming a nurse; did you ever check out the posts on allnurses about nurses using their nursing experience in a dental office? I guess a lot of nurses are married to dentists and I've seen some posts about it. I myself work in the dental field and have been trying to make the transition into nursing.

It honestly just depends where in California you are. Im in one of the less desirable areas of California, in the central valley. However, everyone in my program was guarenteed an interview with 3 of the local hospitals. There are around 70-80 versant positions available total here in town, and 50 of those are with a hospital who pretty much hires Bakersfield graduates only. Basically everyone in my program will for sure get a job. There are also 2 only hospitals who are hiring as well but not with a versant program.
