I recently graduated as an RN! I have not taken my boards yet (I take them in a few weeks). During school I decided my passion is L&D. I know most people say I have to work in med surg in order to get a job in L&D, I was looking for any other tips. I would love to start in this specialty field. I have already signed up for a 1-week training and I will be CLC certified in July. I am also going to take and online EFM course. I have applied to 6 L&D jobs already with no luck. Any advice would be great! If you got hired in this field right out of school, what hospital was it? I am willing to relocate!

Congratulations on graduating nursing school and good luck on your boards.
Where are you located?
I am in California and new grad jobs are hard to get into here. I'm like you. I did my senior preceptorship in l&d; I knew that's what I wanted to do with my career. With that being my focus, I applied to all labor and delivery positions and shifted my cover letter to reflect that.
Also, you should take ACLS and NRP. NRP is required of l&d and ACLS for some hospitals. EFM is also good.
If you really want to get into l&d, keep on applying to all hospitals, big or small. Try community hospitals.
I wish you luck!
