New Grad with interview at UPMC Children's Hospital

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hi everyone. I got an interview coming up at the Children's Hospital at the UPMC. Im super excited and would love to work there. This is my first interview. I think im prepared for the basic questions. But I wanted advice from anyone whose had a peds interview if they ask any scenario questions just so I know if I should review any of my peds material for the interview. (It's an ortho/neuro unit) Thanks in advance!

Always have a good answer for "why nursing" "why peds" and "why this unit". It might seem obvious but I've gone in to an interview and been caught off guard by those questions. *facepalm* I guess it's just so obvious to me why I wanted to be a nurse that I forget sometimes that I will have to explain myself.

Anyway, for my peds interview (at another hospital) there were really no major pathophys questions (I was asked what I would expect HR and BP to do on a child who was dehydrated after they were administered fluids- easy peasy). Think about situations from your clinicals where you've had to deal with a difficult patient or family member or doctor/nurse/aid. Think of times you've gone above and beyond for your patients. I was asked what would I do if given an order to carry out that I didn't agree with.

Most important, remember to smile, make eye contact, and try to relax in to the conversation (tough I know!). Practice your answers out loud in front of a mirror.
