Specializes in Oncology, Med-Surg.

Hey there. I am a new grad in Med-Surg/Oncology with 4 to 5 patients. I am slowly trying to get my time management down. I get the flow of my floor just a little but get stuck with charting in the end. How do I make this easier. I know I should chart along the way and when I have down time. I almost never have down time cuz im always on my toes. This is my routine so far on the floor. What do you guys do to be sucessful?

0700 report at bedside, check MD orders

0800 assessment, lab and med review/Update doctor as needed

0900-1000 assist with baths, start passing meds, procedures, dressing changes

1100 Blood sugars taken/insulin given. If hgb are down, infuse as ordered

1100-1300 lunch for patient, lunch for me ;)

1300 down time for charting, double checking orders

1400 I&O

1500 Ready to report to next shift
