New Grad First Job Advice

Published

Hi Everyone-

Today I was offered a position in a Step-Down/Intermediate ICU in a Trauma II facility. As part of my orientation, I will be taking ACLS, TNCC, Ventilatory Support and most if not all the same classes that ICU RNs take. I am very excited for this position and the learning experience that is ahead. The orientation period is 10-12 weeks and it can be more if needed. 3 Pts per RN. What do you think about this?

Does anyone have any advice on what book I can use to prep and learn as I start my career? Will the books/guides offered here for ICU RNs apply for someone in an intermediate/stepdown ICU? What would you advice?

Finally, what general advice/tips would you share that you wish you had known when you started? I am nervous, which I am guessing its normal! lol

Thanks in advance.
