I'll be graduating from my nursing program next year and we want to relocate to Texas. Can anyone tell me how the job market is there. I have not found too much for new grads. Is this a good move or is there any other cities that would be more likely for me to land a job ?

Texas has a LOT of nursing schools churning out new grads every few months. All of the major cities are saturated with new grads and landing a residency in acute care can be extremely difficult, particularly for an out-of-town applicant who doesn't have connections here and even more particularly, while COVID is going on.

You may have to decide what your goal is. If you just want to live in Texas, then look along the Texas/Mexico border. They need nurses badly in places like McAllen and you will likely get hired quickly. If you want a specific specialty or absolutely won't consider SNF, LTACH, jails and other outpatient nursing jobs, then you will do better to find an acute care job where you live now and attempt to move here after you have a year or two of experience. Whatever you do, do NOT move without a written job offer with firm start date and negotiated salary.

Good luck!

Thank you for your reply! I will look into McAllen Texas. I am open to anything including nursing homes, jails etc. My goal is to get a residency but I imagined it would be difficult so I am keeping all options open. It is the same situation here in Los Angeles, lots of nursing schools and lots of applicants for one job.
