New Grad ASN-RN, will anyone hire me?

Published

I just passed boards in July (YAY!) and have sent out a gazillion resumes. Does anyone know of anywhere that is hiring new grads in the Philly area? I'm looking everywhere, hospitals, clinics, doctors offices, etc for that precious 1 year experience. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Try the Philadelphia Prison system--there are 2 companies that contract out for the city. PHS (Prison Health Services) does medical, and MHM (Mental Health Management), does psych. They are not particularly fussy about hiring new grads if they need staff; if they are currently fully staffed, you might have a harder time. Both of them have websites, so you can look them up. I worked for both of them, a total of 10 years.

Also, there are numerous local drug and alcohol rehabs, and mental health group homes and catchment areas that might hire new grads. They rend not to pay very much, but the work is not that hard. I worked for Gaudenzia for a couple of years. Beware-if you work at a D&A run by recovering staff--they are on a mission, and they want you to be on that mission, too, even if you don't have a drug or alcohol problem, meaning that they expect to make sacrifices in time and salary to help their "mission".

I have 25 years experience in the Phila. area, and I can give you some background about many of the facilities and opportunities locally.

Hey Dave --

I know that you posted this in response to someone elses query but if you don't mind, I'd like to ping you on the subject since I've also struggled to find a job after passing the NCLEX last year.
