I was offered an ER position, and I sometimes have periods of hypoglycemia. Otherwise I'm extremely physically fit. I'm wondering is there a shake, or drink or something quick that I can consume that will last me a 12 hour, night shift? What do you recommend? Other than alcohol, hardy, har. . . I typically have to eat/ drink something ev. two hours to keep it from affecting my LOC. thanks
I am a T1IDD and an RN who works 12 hour nights in an ER. I have found that as long as I have glucose tabs I am good to go no matter what the situation may be. Stay fit, eat right, and take that job in the ER! I have found it to be very rewarding and the hypoglycemia thing has never been an issue for me. If I can do it I know you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bring alot of portable snacks. things you can throw in a zip lock bag etc! I bring alot of nuts, fruit (grapes), and protein/granola bars to get me through the day. I also always try to make sure that I have juice onhand at the desk if i start to feel a drop!
