New DON - newbie

Published

So two weeks ago I took a position at an assisted living community as their Director of Nursing. My previous experience was 5 years ICU RN. It seemed like a change of pace with many opportunities for advancement. I have been doint 10 things at once all day, how long did it take for new DONs out there not to feel like they had about 100 plates full

I have been a DON of LTC for 90 days and I'm exhausted. I have a great support system and mentors

How have you progressed since this post? I'm a new ADON and new to LTC, I'm searching desperately for resources/tools to help me progress. My DON is new too, so we're lost together much of the time.

Specializes in Long term care.

Hang in there guys! I have been in Long Term Care for over 20 years with over 15 years in the management end of things. I can be overwhelming, but you will develop tools to use that will make things much easier. I would suggest developing time management skills. That helped me a lot. If I don't have a plan I don't get things done as fast. At the end of your day if you take 5 minutes to plan for the next day, you save so much time.

Hope all is going well!
