New babies and the chronic hemo nurse

Does anyone have experience with having a new baby and working the dialysis schedule? I go in at 0430. The Hubs works from 1330-midnight. I do not forsee getting much sleep nights when he is at work and I have to work the next morning. Eek! I'm not pregnant yet, but we have been TTC for a little while.

I guess I am just hoping to hear someone say Sure! I did it! It's do-able!

So far in my planning, I see myself having to switch to TTS, which means I'd have to work at our sister clinic (homebase is only open MWF - 3 shifts) Hubs and I will just have to work opposite days. This is just brainstorming stage :D

Thanks guys!

I had a baby while working in dialysis. When I went back to work my fiancee quit his job while I went back to work full time. We didn't really get much sleep whatsoever, a new baby is pretty much up every 4 hours. There was relief when the baby started sleeping through the night but even that isn't that reliable and he is 18 months old now.

I had to go on bedrest at 30 weeks because I couldn't seem to stay off my feet enough and I developed preeclampsia. I would suggest somebody should be able to stay at home with the baby and the other go to work full time.

My OB/GYN expressed some concern that chemicals would harm the baby but he was under the impression that we still use formaldehyde to sterilze the dialyzers but that isn't the case anymore. I went through the entire MSDS and there is no harmful chemical in my facility.

I hope this helps. :yeah:
