New alternate types of NCLEX questions

In October, NCSBN is introducing alternate types of questions that will appear on NCLEX. They are fill in the blank and questions with multiple answers. I tried some practice ones and they seemed hard. I will be taking my boards in October and I am kind of scared, since i am used to and more comfortable with all multiple choice questions. I was just wondering if the NCLEX was going to keep the MC questions and just add some of the new kinds of questions or make the test all of the alternate types of questions. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

My understanding is that the majority of the NCLEX questions will still be multiple choice but every once in a while you'll have the new type of questions thrown in.

The new type of questions are actually already on the NCLEX, it's just that they're not scored yet and won't be until October.

I had a couple on my NCLEX. They really weren't all that bad. the majority will still be multiple choice.

I didn't get any of those questions.

I had 2 of those questions. They were not too bad. But it was a load off of my mind to know they were not "counted"

Christine - Well, I took my test July 7, 2003 and I had 4 of the "new" questions on my test. Rumor has it that they are not counted right now, but I am not SURE of that. I do not know when they will begin counting them, if they arent already. Anyway, just to give you an idea of what I had - I had 3 dosage calculations questions. They were VERY SIMPLE. 2 of them gave you something like, "you have 1 liter of fluid to give over 8 hours"... "what is the ml/hr?" Very simple. Then I had a similar one that wanted gtt/min. Not bad at all. THEN... I had a "check all that apply" question. It was not that difficult. It was a question with 6 answer choices. It did not tell me how many choices were correct or anything. Anyway - just try not to worry too much about the test (easier said than done), and you will do fine. Check out my posting about the NCLEX RN review book. That is the main thing I used to prepare...
