Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi everyone!

I've been reading through this site for a while now, but just decided to register yesterday. I'm currently finishing my BA in Psych and will be applying to ABSN programs for summer/fall of 2015. I have about 5 nursing pre-reqs left to complete and I'll be taking either Chemistry or Anatomy this fall. If anyone has any study/preparation tips for those classes I would greatly appreciate it!

Welcome to the forum Elizabeth.

Tell us more about yourself. you age, location, marital status, any kids...etc. Just kidding

I would honestly say take CHEM first. I know alot of people who took it and either dropped it, failed it or had to repeat it. Not an easy course (i speak from experience). I dropped the class when i first started, but my dumb head forgot to drop it off my schedule so it shows as an F on my grade. I re-took it and got a A in the class. ALOT of material to understand so try to stay ahead and preferrebly read the next chapter IF you can so if you have any questions you can ask instead of waiting to ask. Also make sure you go on ratemyprofessor.com and look who the instructors are. Some instructors are alot more helpful than others and also others explain it much better. Don't take a instructor who is an easy A. you will regreat it because you will need some of that knowledge when you take A&P1.

For A&P dont waste time on stuff you can buy from ebay like the coloring book for different body organs, structurs, etc that pearsons sells. It is a waste of time. A&P 1 is alot easier than A&P 2 (for me that is). Again take an instructor who will teach you something. The basic foundations of study tips for these pre-reqs is, you need a minimum of 2-3 hours a day to study. If you want to get A's in classes do what I DID and just study all weekend. The payoff is worth it in the end when your GPA is being considered amoung 50-600 other applicants. I wish I did not slack off on my Public speaking course (got a B in it) cause it dropped my GPA down to a 3.75.

Again welcome to the forum. Feel free to message me if you have any specific questions

Yea I refer to ratemyprofessor for every class I've ever enrolled in. It's definitely useful to find the right professor. And I study all weekend anyways because the program I want to get into usually only accepts people with a 3.9 GPA. Thankfully, I've gotten straight A's the last two semesters and mostly A's throughout working on my psych degree. I took human nutrition as a nursing pre req last semester and got an A, but it was definitely a tough class. Almost felt like an anatomy class sometimes. Glad to know that purchasing one of those coloring books won't be helpful for that class. I'm going to try to take Chem first and hopefully I can get a spot in the class. Thanks for the advice.

Are you taking the TEAS test as your admission test? And is it for a traditional BSN program or accelerated BSN? Goodluck! :)

Welcome ElizabethH736:

You are not alone with rate my professor. A number of students in my class use that site. For me, I try to narrow down the rates for a particular class (rather than overall) as the teacher may be better instructing one class or another. I also try to remember that the Internet allows a lot of nonsense; and the ratings can be inflated in either direction disproportionately to the truth.

Thank you.
