Nervous about starting nurse externship

Hi everyone!

I've been accepted into a nursing externship that lasts for about three months this summer. I went out-of-state for the first time to have this experience because, as weird as this sounds, I love my state and I know I don't plan to work as a nurse out-of-state in the future, so I decided this would be helpful for me to experience, considering it's temporary.

Well today, I finished orientation and training, and I will begin working in two days. I feel like I have never been more anxious in my life. Suddenly all my homesickness from when I first flew in has returned, and I don't know who to talk to right now because all my friends and family are miles and miles away and in a completely different timezone. I feel lost and afraid. Does anyone have advice for me before I begin? I feel like a wreck.

Thanks so much,

Jane

What a great opportunity! As much as you miss your friends and family know that this is a step in the right direction for YOU and your career and it will help you when you graduate. You will make great contacts and this job will be a resume booster. Enjoy every minute of it. It's only a couple months. Maybe being far away from your friends and family will encourage you to meet new people.

Hi Lev! Thanks so much for your reply. I apologize for the late response; didn't think anyone would respond haha! I appreciate your positivity. I've learned to settle in this new place, and I've accepted that even if I'm far from home, this opportunity will be worth it in the long run. Thank you again, I will definitely enjoy and learn as much as I can!
