Nervous about School(What to expect)

Published

Just a little bit about me, my name is Dylan I'm 21 years old and Im from Canada. Ive been viewing this community for sometime just to learn a bit about what to expect come school. I really appreciate this community and its awesome to see nurses come together to help one another out.

I start class this Monday and I'm very nervous. I put myself in a situation in which I hope to succeed. I live 15 mins away from the school and asides from my girlfriend who lives about 2 hours away all my time will go towards studying and school. Ive wanted to be involved in nursing ever since i was 15, my grandmother suffered from Alzheimer's in which I was at the nursing home every other day for three years until her passing. My mother also works with children with disabilities. I enjoy helping people and I love working with kids.

I truly believe this is my calling and I plan on giving it everything I have. With that being said, I have been out of school for four years and I'm wondering what to expect. I start clinical's in March which will give me enough time to learn the basics and prepare. So my question to this community is what should I expect?

Is everything from the ground up?

How many hours will I be studying a day on average?

And the experience in general, what should i expect?

Looking forward to hearing back from this community!

Welcome to Allnurses.

Starting school can be exciting and nerve racking.Don't worry everyone will be nervous.Yes things will be taught from the ground up. You will learn the basics of providing care and how the body functions.Your first clinicals will give you a chance to get hands on practice with these skills.

How much you study will depend on your personal learning style but I would count on at least 2-3 hours a day for reading and assignments. More on the weekends.

I am writing a blog about my experiences and tips. Feel free to message me for the link. I'm in block Two.
