nervous about school

Hello! I am in Philadelphia and will be starting lpn classes on sept.30th. I am a former cosmetologist so to say that this will be a big change for me is an understatement! I am very nervous about school. I already have my cosmetology license and had to go through state boards to pass it now I am going to do the same with the nclex-pn! Any advicw from former lpn students would be great...THANKS!!

215 in the house.. But to answer, just stay focused, read the chapters ahead of time, take notes, no cramming before exams, study ahead, study a bare minimum of 2hrs a day, ask a lot of questions and don't be afraid to if you don't know something, always try to know why something is important, use what ever help services they provide and also find your own resources. Stay organized. You can do it, won't be easy but it's achievable.

Oh snap, a former Philadelphia nursing student right here :) ***looks around, well I live outside of Philadelphia but went to school there lol***

Dont be nervous hun. Just study, do nclex styled questions to help you take those exams because the exams are set up that way. DO NOT FALL BEHIND IN YOUR READING, and always eat before an exam. Good Luck

Hello!

Congratulations on starting your program! I'm sure you'll do great.

I actually just finished school and passed my NCLEX two days ago. What got me through it was a combination of things. Before each class I would "skim" (don't read it, you'll get burnt out too quickly...skim first) the chapters pertaining to the next class, then I would sit in the front and take notes during class. (Another thing to consider is recording your instructor. You need to ask their permission, but I learned best from listening to lectures.) If the instructor is too fast, ask if they can slow down a little. The worst they can say is no! If fellow students are irritated by it, it is their problem.

As far as tests, don't stress! Just read over your notes the night before, go through the test review if you have one, and get a good night's sleep and a decent breakfast in the morning. Staying up all night trying to cram does more harm than good in 99% of cases. On the morning of the test, I would sit outside and relax (I'm a smoker, so I would grab a cigarette and chill.) until 3 minutes before class-time started. I would then go up relaxed, refreshed, and having avoided all the other students freaking out thereby stressing me out more.

Anyway, good luck! Everyone studies and prepares for schoolwork differently, but hopefully something I did helps you. :p You'll do great! Whatever happens, just don't give up.
