Just found this site and wanted to post. I start school on the 14th and im super nervous!! Not to mention broke after buying all he books I needed for ONE semester :uhoh21: But im thinking it'll all be worth it!

Congrats on getting started! It'll be worth it. :yeah:

Hi, I just completed my 1st semester of a BSN program here in Ohio. Yep cost of books are outrageous! The good thing is that you will use them throughout your career so they are worth the price I guess. Congrats on starting your program. Stay positive even on the tough days and you will be successful!! Good luck

I am an LPN to RN grad. Congratulations and don't be nervous. If this is something that you really want to do, then you will need to devote a lot of time to studying. Half of our class dropped out or failed by the time graduation came around. Most either, decided it wasn't for them, or couldn't/wouldn't devote the time to it because other things were going on in their lives. They had too much on their plate. For most, it is very difficult to maintain a job, family, and go to school. If you don't have to work, then don't. You may have to sacrafice some things in order to get through it. (eg. partys, going out with friends) But remember, when you are finished you can provide for yourself and family without depending on someone else. Remember, we have all got discouraged and thought about giving up, but hang in there when times are tough!

Being nervous is okay, I think all students are. It will pass as time goes on. Books are super expensive, I have found that ebay, half.com, and amazon are amazing at helping cut the costs. Also you can usually get away with buying 1 edition behind and save tons of money this way. Just look at a classmates book and match up the chapters. The books dont change that much from 1 editon to the next. I havent run into any problems doing this yet, you cut your cost by 50 - 75 percent this way. I have gotten books for as low as $3.00.

I am going through the application process right now. I feel you on the nervous factor!!! This field is completely different from the field Im currently in and completely different from what I am used to. But I can not wait to get started!!! I think it will be better for me in the long run! And hang in there. I have heard its tough, but like they said, it will pay off!!!;)

First, congrats on your first step to a great career choice. :yeah: I am in my last quarter, 4 weeks to go. One thing that I wish I had done from the very beginning was to keep a journal. After each clinical experience write down your thoughts, skills performed, anything you can think of. I just finished precepting and we had to do this after each day we worked along with a weekly focus journal. It was amazing looking back to the first days and to be able to see how far I've come. Stay strong and surround yourself with possitive people and you will do just fine. Good Luck!

Hey best way to cut down the cost of books is to one buy online and two borrow from friends that are ahead of you in the program. The only books you should plan to buy new is 1. a good drug book for nurses. and 2. a nursing diagonsis book . these are the staples for every class you will take and a nesscity. Also find good research sites for your school. Are you in a BSN program?

Good Luck!!
