Pharm Classes....
I am in Ohio and am a 2nd year nursing student. Pharm is required before we can move on to our third year. That does seem odd that it is not a requirement.

Nervous new student
Hi, I just completed my 1st semester of a BSN program here in Ohio. Yep cost of books are outrageous! The good thing is that you will use them throughout your career so they are worth the price I guess. Congrats on starting your program. Stay positive even on the tough days and you will be successful!! Good luck

What a terrible way to start off the new year
Hi, Don't let the wait list thing scare you. See there are many people who think like you, many of the people may not want to wait and will either change majors or go to another school. This is what happened at the school that I did my pre-reqs at. I didn't want to wait so I transferred to a school that accepts students based on GPA and I had a good enough GPA to get accepted my 1st semester at the new school. I just finished my 1st semester in the program for BSN. However my friends that stayed at the other school have all been bumped up a year because of all the people that left or changed majors. SO my advice is that if you have a good enough GPA, go to a school that accepts students by GPA or stick it out where you are and other like minded people will change majors or change schools. From what I have seen here in Ohio the wait list NEVER turns out to be as long as the schools claim it will be. By the way I am 34 and I am by far not the oldest nursing student in my program. :nuke:

Scared so very scared
Hi It's totally normal to be scared. I just finished my 1st semester of a BSN program in Ohio, I'm starting clinicals in Jan. 09 I'm still scared. It is very challenging, but all of you will do fine. I wanted to change my major on many occasions but my fiance kept telling me if it was easy and stress-free everyone would do it. Hang in there and you will succeed. And for those of you who haven't been accepted yet......just wait til you get that acceptance letter. I cried I was so excited!!!!!!! Good-luck and best wishes.

Hating Nursing School - Don't know what to do
hi i'm not going to say what you should do either way. what i do want to say is that i just finished my 1st semester of a very tough bsn program in ohio and so far 4 people out of 40 have switched majors leaving 36 in my class. the 1st six weeks of the semester i came home everyday and cried at the dinner table and i didn't even know what the problem was. i really considered switching majors many times. my fiance and son kept telling me stick it out... i did and i still feel unsure if nursing is right for me on many days but like you i had a strong passion for nursing before i got in the program and i believe that my uncertain feelings are due to all the different reasons you and others have listed. the thing that i keep telling myself is that when i'm done i don't necassarily have to do bedside nursing. there are many different directions we can go with our degrees. not real sure if this is of any help to you but i just want you to know you are not alone in your feelings. out of the 40 people who i started the nursing program with, i would say that more then half have expressed having these same exact feelings. i was feeling like i was crazy so i started asking others about it and i found out i was not alone.

DUI and Nursing
Hi all, I had 2 DUI's in my lifetime (2003 & 2006). I have checked with my school and it poses no problem there, as I was excepted to their BSN program starting in August. They said I needed to check with the Ohio Board of Nursing to see if this was going to pose a problem after I graduate. I have not been able to get a answer. I have checked with two of my local hospital's HR departments and both said they would have no problem with hiring me as long as no one was injured and as long as neither was a felony, which they were not. So I guess mainly I'm concerned with being able to sit for the exam. Does anyone know anything about a situation like this or has anyone been in such a predicament?

Starting BSN at Kent Stark Fall 2008

35/f Married w/3 kids I am too old ?
After the cost, the #1 thing to be sure of when checking out schools is to BE SURE they are fully accredited. About age, I'm 33 and starting BSN program in fall 08 and I am in the middle as far as age, there are younger but just as many older people in my class of 40

Is nursing the right choice?
Another thought would be to do the medical assisting, get a job when your done and continue on to become a nurse with the possibility of having your employer pay the tuition. 4 years is a long commitment if you aren't sure if you will like or be able to handle nursing.

Kicked out but able to re-apply and got in
I am starting BSN program in the fall, what do people get kicked out for? Is it grades or are there other worries? Thank you

Moving from California to Ohio to pursue nursing, need help!
Hi all, something no one has mentioned is that when you move you still pay out of state tuition until you have been a permanent resident in Ohio for 1 year. In 2005 I moved to Glendale, CA from Canton, OH and ran into that problem I was excepted into an LVN program in Cali but withdrew because I had not been a resident for 2 years in Cali and couldn't afford the out of state tuition. It's only a year here. So I came back home and now attend Kent State for my BSN.
