So... I graduated in May after five years of college with a degree in English and history. A few months before graduation, I planned to go directly into a ADN program at another school (in the same city). Mostly because I want a job I know will be actively challenging, with physical movement (not sitting in a cubicle like I'm used to) and satisfying, plus the ability to work pretty late in life (I'm only 23, but one day I'll be 65!) with relatively little age-related discrimination (according to my mom, anyway, she's 57 now and has been an LPN for years and years). ANYWAY... I applied to this RN program, and I have already completed the first semester of pre-reqs (bec of the degree I just graduated with) (except for psychology, which I just CLEP'd successfully TODAY, YAY), so with my acceptance letter into the general program, I had to send in a second application for admission into the actual nursing sequence of courses/clinicals. I waited and waited all through July for a letter saying I was accepted, but after no word, I finally broke down and called the admissions office to ask when we would find out (I didn't give my name, in case they thought it was an annoying question!); and they told me that, as a new student to the school, I would find out AT ORIENTATION (August 9). This orientation is just for new students in the nursing program, but it's for both people who need to complete pre-reqs and those that have applied to start the nursing sequence.
Is it just me, or is this a strange way to find out if you've been accepted or not? I'm just so nervous... When I passed my CLEP test today (which had to be done prior to orientation, because registering for classes will be done then, too), I finally let myself buy some books from the nursing/nursing school section of the bookstore, a medical terms guide and NCLEX study aid. I'm looking at required textbooks for the courses (the information is always available since all the classes are taught every semester) and finding good deals online... but I'm worried I'm just getting my hopes up. I feel like I'm a good candidate, I had good grades in my first degree. But maybe first priority will be given to students who completed their pre-reqs last semester at this school?
I don't really know what I'm looking for by posting this here, just venting/de-stressing I guess. I know I should just wait and find out at orientation, but it's all I can think about, and it's almost a week away!! It feels like forever (especially since I've been unable to find a summer job, so my days are very boring). Anyone else had an experience similar at all to this??

Wow! That has to be stressful. I thought I would go crazy waiting for my letter. I understand your need to vent. I've never heard of a school doing that way but...it's their show I guess :) I wish you good luck. You sound like a competitive candidate. Let us know how it goes.

I've heard of some schools making their students apply for clinical. Crazy. What if you don't get in? At my school, we got to choose our day if we got signed up before the slots ran out. But now, they make a schedule and hand it out. End of story.
