Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

Hello everyone, I have been accepted into a lpn program. Yay me, I start march 31. I spike to a few current students. They informed that a lot of sudents do not make it too the second semster. Due to failing because they do not study. This made me a little nervous. I wanted to know from former or current students, is their any tips or advice you can offer me to successfully complete this program. Thank you in advance

The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to commit to successfully completing school. I think that commitment is more important than raw intelligence. Make a decision that you will do whatever you need to do. Put school 1st!

I designed a schedule that allowed me to attend school and care for my kids with no conflicts.

I cut back my part time work hours back to almost nothing except for on school breaks until I was about halfway through and had a good handle of what was needed from me to be able to be successful.

Study in a way that works for you. Ask other successful students what worked for them in that particular nursing program. Do what they tell you has worked and do it regularly. For example, reading textbooks works for some people. Others record lectures. Others (me) listen carefully in lecture and take lots of detailed notes.

You can do it!

I agree the biggest part of this while be your confidence and your passion. You must tell yourself passing and being succesful is your only choice. I am 6 weeks away from graduating my lpn program. Don't stress, make a good schedule for yourself and find resources. Youtube is amazing, simplenursing on youtube is great! There are so many FREE resources to help you succeed. I study a fair amount, i write all the vocab out for the chapter so atleast i know what the heck they are talking about. I will then do nclex study questions, youtube, and read the boxes within the book. I am not one to read the entire chapter but everyones different. I find doing nclex questions on the topic combined with youtube help me the most.

I don't necessarily have any advice for you, but I just wanted to say that I also start on March 31! Good luck to you :).

I agree about youtube!! It helps me get a visual idea of how a skill is done by different people.

Get a planner....a big one, it will help you stay organized. Cross things off as you go.

I work less than what I originally planned, because you really do need to focus. I do not believe you have to alienate family and friends though. You should be able to find a routine that works for you.

Getting into nursing school is hard; staying in is even harder. We are in our first semester and have lost 5 people so far....2 decided nursing was not for them, and 3 others did not pass skills check off on the 3rd try so they failed. You grow very close to your classmates so it is very sad to see someone not pass, but it also makes you work even harder.

First semester seems hard because of the amount of work/classes, but that is where organization comes in. In our program the instructors say 2nd semester is harder because of the in depth content.

I started March 31 as well. Where are you all attending school
