:nuke: I am going to start my first travel assignment in a couple of days on med/ surg floor. Anybody there who is travel nurse pls give me guidelines so that I will be successful. I am very scared and nervous.

The recruiter told me that the nurse patient ratio on that unit is 1:6 or 7 and will be floating to telemetry unit also.

I have minimal telemetry experience and will need supervision for that. Does the staff helps travel nurses.

I am just praying to God that the hospital staff be very helpful.

Waiting for all for ur replies with some tips.

When you take a travel contract you are expected to go into the job needing minimal supervision. The most I have heard is 2 shifts of floor orientation. On my first travel assignment, I had 2 hours.

You should not float anywhere you are not qualified to go; and, your recruiter had the obligation to tell this to his/her client (the hospital). You risk your license going somewhere you are not qualified to go, unless the hospital is aware of it and will agree to the supervision.

As to your question about how willing the staff is to help a traveler----the answer is that it is hospital, and even unit dependant. Some places will treat you as a subhuman and others will be grateful for the additional help. That is something that you will have to wait and see.

Good Luck to you. Once you get past the first time, it gets easier.
