Need money/scholarship for school

Published

I am currently enrolled in excelsior LPN-RN bridge program. I chose this route because I failed out of a traditional school RN program one semester prior to my graduation. I was left with thousands of dollars in debt and with no diploma, degree or RN license to show for it. I was depressed for approximately two years. So not to give up I decided to attend long distance learning because I didn't want to go back to a traditional school. A friend of mine told me about DLSI and not even researching anything about the school, I enrolled in their program because I thought they were actual Excelsior. Shortly after I found out they were a tutoring/training program with no affiliation with EC. So I had to enroll and register with Excelsior on my own, which I could have done without DLSI. I could not get out of DLSI contract so they're taking money from my account weekly and I am also paying for Excelsior exams. Oh, did I mention I had to pay $1000+ when I enrolled with EC and to remain register there's a yearly fee. I have taken so far a total of two exams and one online class. I will be taking another one this month. The exams are about $375.00 and the practice exams are $75 (I had purchased two so far). I love EC. I study on my own (with some procrastination at times). Now my dilemma is I can't progress as fast as I would love to because I don't have the funds. I have a family, a husband and three kids, with one in college. My husband doesn't not support me because he thinks I shouldn't even be in school anymore so he does very minimal task. I pay 90% of the bills. My only support are my parents and my first child. I have a full time job and from time to time I will pick up extra hours and try to study whenever I can.

Many times I feel like giving up, but I find myself hanging in there because it is my dream and I want to advance in my career. There's anyone know any special program scholarships or have any ideas how can obtain money for school? My job does not have tuition reimbursement I have already check it out. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Submit your FAFSA and contact the Excelsior finance office. You might be eligible for scholarships based on need. Also the courses (not exams, but courses) are eligible for financial aid. You might also speak with an advisor about the nursing conferences — they are a more guided learning experience with the exam at the end, kind of a cross between the courses and the exams, and they might be eligible for financial aid while being cheaper than the actual courses. Good luck.
