Need LPN job

Published

Hey guys, I got my LPN license just over 2 months ago. I've had about 6 interviews, but no job yet. They were all at nursing homes except for one jail. I had two offers. I did'nt call one back as I heard you get like 50 patients after two days of training and don't have time to take a break in a 12 hour shift. The other place said I have a job and it would take a week or two for the paperwork, but its been over a month now (I've lost count) and she hasn't returned my last couple calls. I've applied at just about all the local hospitals and nursing homes. I live in NW Ohio, about an hour from Toledo, Fort Wayne and Lima. Anybody know of anywhere hiring in those or other areas? I could move if I had to, but would prefer to work somewhere within driving distance until I'm sure it will work out.

I don't live in your area, so I don't have know what places you could try, but let me ask you this. Are you going in person to fill out applications? I think it really shows initiative and interest on your part if you do that. I don't blame you for not wanting to take the position with barebones orientation and that many patients, especially as a new grad. However, you may find that many LTC places are similar in their staffing as it is hard to recruit and retain nurses, particularly in long-term care. It will be hard at first, but you will get a routine going and I think you should be just fine after awhile. Are there any long term acute care or rehab facilities to apply to? This would be a good experience for you especially if you are going back to school for RN. Also, are you IV certified? If not, my advice is to get this certification. When I was an LPN, I had to get that to work in a hospital and at that time, it was not included in LPN education. Good luck and I really don't forsee that you will be unemployed for much longer. The need for nurses is just too great.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I applied in person for the jobs. Only one of the interviews even called me back and that was to say they hired someone else (then they had their ad in the paper again for the same job). I called three of them back within a week and I'm still waiting on one and the other one I don't know what is up. There is a hospice in the area that was hiring a couple weeks ago. I was going to go there, but thought I'd try to get in to the nursing homes first. I guess I should go out there tomorrow and there is one other LTC facility that said they would hire me as prn awhile back, but that was before I even filled out the app. I filled it out last week, so I better drop it off. My ex says I'm not motivated enough. I am, its just I'm not talkative or pushy like some people. If all else fails, I may try calling the first place back that offered me a job a couple months ago (the first place I talked about) and see if they have any openings now. I'm getting desperate as I can't take the factory much longer. I would'nt even mind Baylor or weekend work. I do live in a rural community and there are only about 10 or so nursing homes total within the area. I'm starting to apply in other towns over an hour away, but hope I can find something closer.

An hour to FtWayne/Toledo/Lima....do you live in the Defiance area? That's where I am. Who have you applied to, if you don't mind me asking? The LTC facility I'm at is always hiring for PRN (PRN has higher wages than hiring in as a regular staff). It'd be good to get your foot in the door and then when a full time position opens, you'd have a better chance at it.
