Need a little advice

I need some advice..I'm taking my pre reqs right now at Ivytech and I'm going to be completely finished with those after summer semester (06) but I won't be able to start the nursing program until fall 2007. and it seems so stupid to me to be out of school for a year until I get to start the program when I'll have the pre reqs done the semester before. I'm just soo confused about what to do:o any advice would be so helpful!!

well..you could use the time to work in the nursing field as a CNA or a Tech, to get yourself comfortable with hands-on patient care.

Or maybe take some 'fun' classes...stuff you won't have time to do once the nursing classes start up. Maybe pick up an extra psych class..those are always helpful.

For me, I had about 15 years between my sciences and my actual nursing classes (my choice, not the schools waiting list lol) and it was okay. I didn't forget as much as I'd thought so if you're worried about that, its not such a problem.

That must be hard having to wait like that. Stick it out tho, its worth it! :)

Or you could do like I did. I started at Ivy Tech, the waiting game was too long for my taste, so I took my prereqs and ran straight to another school where I wouldn't Yes I'm a nurse now :)

I agree that the hands on experience with patients would be great. Perhaps you could work part-time, attend school part-time during the year wait if you have no interest in attending another program. My school offers several classes that are not required by the program for a nursing degree but enhance your knowledge in the field. I have found the dosage calculation, IV classes very helpful, as well as Gerontology and Holism,Health & Success. Just a thought that would keep in school and enhance your knowledge in the field you have choosen. This would also be an excellent time to focus on learning a forgein language if you have that interest. In my area there is a growing population of Spanish speaking individuals and I use the summer session to focus on learning Spanish. Good Luck and I am sure you will make the decision that is best for you, just never give up.
