need a job, and besides that, advice

Published

Hi,

I'm posting here in hopes that someone will be able to guide me in the right direction.. Had a job as a med-surg nurse for about a year, before I was basically forced to quit. They said it was because I wasn't up to par as a new nurse, even though I didn't even get to go through the fellowship before they decided all of this. Moreover they said that I needed to work on being able to "build rapport" with the patients. Guess I'm not as personable as I thought. Heh.

Anyway, I really need a job, but I've never been able to hold one for longer than 2 years. That was at this most recent job where I worked as tech before I became a nurse. Now I have a meeting with a recruiter tomorrow, but I'm not sure what to tell her as the reason I quit from my previous job.

My previous supervisor suggested I take a nursing refresher course and then reapply to her unit if there are openings. But when I tried to sign up for the course at one of the local colleges, they said that I probably don't need it having graduated last year and they wouldn't let me sign up!

I don't think there's anything wrong with me as a person, but I guess I have a tendency to shoot myself in the foot occasionally and sabotage my own success. Which, anyone have advice for that as well?? Seriously, for once I'd like to be the successful one in the family, and not the one who's always stirring up trouble (having lost my job and all). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!! :o
