Need information about ASU/Arkansas & UTMEM CRNA Program

Just wanted to know if anyone have any infomation on the CRNA application & interview process for ASU in Arkansas & UTMEM in Tennessee. I am compiling my information for ASU now as the deadline approaches for the class starting in Jan, 2009. If anyone has been through this process, PLEASE HELP!!! Any information or suggestions are helpful.

UT Memphis has already selected for the 2008 class, and the deadline for application for the 2009 class is september 1, 2008. I don't know why they choose so early. The important thing to know about UT Mem is that the 2008 class will be the last MSN CRNA program they have. After that, it will be a DNP program lasting 4-5 years. A pretty big commitment.

I start at UT Memphis in July of '08; it was my first and only place to apply to and the experience was absolutely wonderful, even before I knew I was accepted. They telephoned to inform me of my interview, congratulated about being selected, set up a time, then followed up by mail, sending me all the information I needed to prepare for the interview. On interview day I wore a skirt suit, as I was walking up to the nursing building I was greeted by name and escorted to a common area where many other hopefuls were either waiting or finished interviewing. Very laid back and inviting atmosphere.

The actual interview lasted about twenty minutes, and they asked my the standard interview questions like: Why UT, why CRNA, what have I been doing with myself since nursing school, familiar with blackboard/webct, familiar with listserve... no clinical questions. After the interview there was a tour of campus, and lunch was provided. It was actually an enjoyable experience considering the horror stories I have heard about elsewhere. The only thing that made it better was actually getting in. I believe they interviewed roughly 45 applicants, offered 20 and 19 accepted. Iwas notified by phone about a week and a half later of my acceptance, and I was contacted several more times just to encourage my acceptance to UT memphis. Absolutely wonderful experience! As far as accepting early, I appreciate it since they notified us already that we are accepted we can spend this time preparing financially and in my situation moving my whole life to memphis. I have friend waiting 6mo or more to hear from their schools.

Some points of interest for me about UT memphis was that they did not require the GRE, all of their clinical sites are local to memphis, SRNA student do not compete with residents for cases since UT memphis does not have a medical anesthesia program, the tuition is reasonable, and since I was a MS resident I will not have to pay out of state tuiton due to the South Regional Education Board Agreement. Having CCRN seemed to be important to the interviewers. UT has had a zero attrition rate for the last several years and 100% pass rate on boards.

Since I know I will be asked here are the stats:

ICCU experience 1 year 1mo at application time (no previous experience) 2 by the time class starts, 4.0 pre-req for BSN and 3.75 in my BSN, GRE 1120, CCRN, five page paper for the application

Congratulations, and I look forward to meeting you in July. My last e-mail from UT said they were going to send out a list of new CRNA students soon, but I haven't received it yet. I can't tell you how excited I am about UT. I agree with everything you said about the program.

Thanks for the information. UTMEM will be one of the schools that I will apply to and also ASU. Are you planning on working part-time or prn while in school? I hear it is impossible to do. I wish you the best of luck in the program!

JessAnn, good luck to you and hope to see you as well. If you have any information about the school, please let me know. I think they are changing the program into a doctorate program which means it will take longer to complete.

Been also waiting for that email with contact info as I am wondering what you all are up to in preparation. I am moving from out of state so it is a big ordeal for me to relocate, but well worth it

This thread was helpful for me. I am planning to apply this September for admission to start July 2009. I have a 3.89 BSN gpa, 3.6 cumulative gpa, No GRE, CCRN-Adult certification, 1 y of Trauma ICU, 4 years of ICU, and presently working in a Pediatric CVICU (3 mos). I hope to get in b/c I live about 15 minutes from UT campus/clinical sites. I wasn't aware that UT Medical School didn't have an anesthesiology program....another bonus!
