Need help with VRP in PA

Nurses Recovery

I have a different situation that I need some assistance with. I graduated from Villanova in Aug with my BSN with hopes of taking the NCLEX soon, but have been having trouble with the BON. I have 2 DUI's, in 2003 and 2007 and citation in public drunkeness sometime before 2007. According to my state criminal history report it only shows the DUI from 2007, so that was the only thing I put on the application. I did that b/c I thought it said if you received ARD for a conviction that you don't have to disclose that information. The BON sent me to get evaluated and came back with the conclusion of no impairment and no treatment needed.

So I was feeling great, but then the person that did my evaluation called and said a person at the BON did some additional research and saw the other incidences. I had to get re-evaluated and now I have a problem and need treatment and join VRP. I recieved the information about VRP and there is alot of stuff that I cannot do. For example, only work at a PHMP (Professional Health Monitoring Program) approved location, 2Xmt drug/alcohol test, 2Xwk AA meetings and 1:1 therapy sessions. Also it says that I would not able to give out meds and my employer would have to do regularly scheduled progress reports. How the hell am I going to tell a employer to do all that. It's ridiculous.

I haven't even sat for my NCLEX yet and the BON wants me to go through all these steps b/c of stuff that happened 5 years ago. I already went through the state probation which included urine tests, AA meetings and therapy sessions when I was charged with the DUI. I passed with no problems b/c I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM. Why do I have to go through it agian? It doesn't seem fair to me. I even had to pass urine test to get into Villanova and passed that too. Does anybody have any knowledge with this or can steer me in the right direction. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Ok thats understandable but I still would like to hear from people if they have gone through this. I have been reading everybody saying to get a lawyer but I guess I just want to know if it's worth it. Will the BON prevent me from taking my boards if I appeal? also, What am I up against?
