Need help with trying to get into a nursing program!

Published

I am extremely determined to become a nurse! I've wanted this dream more than anything for such a long time. However, now that I am finally stable enough to start school, I am finding it more and more hard just to get into a school. I started taking my pre-req's at my local community college and I wouldn't mind going through their nursing program, however, it is a 2+ year wait just to begin. I really don't want to wait that long nor do I have that much time to wait around. I recently looked into Brown Mackie College, which is an accredited nursing school. They require the TEAS 5. My problem is, I am TERRIBLE at math. You aren't able to use a calculator during the test. I've already took it once and did excellent in all the subjects except, math! I live in Phoenix, Az. I was wondering if there are any schools that anybody knows of that don't require the TEAS. I understand that most schools require some kind of an entrance exam, I just know that I will not get anywhere if I have to be graded on my math skills. Also, i've found that a lot of schools that have a nursing program require that you are a CNA or medical assistant. I am none of the above. I wouldn't even mind if I had to settle with becoming an LPN first. I am not picky at this point as far as what kind of school I go to, I just want to get started already! Any suggestions on schools/programs? I am at a loss..

I totally understand where your coming from! I'm in the same boat as you. :crying2: I'm horrible at Math too and thats my only problem with getting into a private school. I really dont want to have to fool with pre-req's either. However, I did order a Review guede for LPN/LVN pre-entrance exam book online. It is a great book and covers Reading, math and science, the stuff that is on the exam. I'm actually doing pretty good with the math. You just have to study and focus. I want this as bad as you. :) There's also other books out there to help you with your math. I'm going to take the pre-entrance exam at Spencerian this month and if I dont pass im going to have to go to my community college. Good luck girl! Hope this helps! :smokin:
