hello. i am a bsn student that has to interview a nurse for my research and evidence based practice class. if anyone is willing to answer a few questions, i would really appreciate it. you can post the answers here or email to me at [email protected]. here they are:
how important is nursing research to your practice? have you participated in carrying out nursing research? do you value research? what is most relevant about research to your practice? what nursing journals do you read to find out about nursing research? how do you use research findings to inform your practice? does nursing research go on in your practice area or agency? how are research findings shared with others? what do you think needs to be researched?
you don't need to answer all of them but i would appeciate feedback that deals with the subject matter.
thanks!!

1. "How important is nursing research to your practice? "
Begging the question, but research, not necessarily nursing research is paramount to my practice.
2. "Have you participated in carrying out nursing research?"
Yes, several times. Effectiveness of various DVT prophylaxis, NASIDS vs. Toradol and others.
3. "Do you value research?"
Yes. A better question, would be; "Do you value nursing research? Why? or Why not?"
4. "What is most relevant about research to your practice?"
Truth. Sorry, but, not only do I need to value the quality of the study, I also need to see it in action. In case your question has another meaning; Research is way more important than policy and/or CYA. Still, the bottom line is "what works is what works."
5. "What nursing journals do you read to find out about nursing research?"
I do not do that. A journal is only as good as it's content. That content varies depending on circumstances. I do value pubmed. You can place search criteria and be informed of any new information, as it's published. Still, it's not that easy, I need to keep looking and questioning.
6. "How do you use research findings to inform your practice?"
I read the research, try to understand that research, then, if the research is good enough, I apply that to my practice. If it is new or radical, I inform the patient, get informed consent, then watch my patient "like a hawk."
7. "Does nursing research go on in your practice area or agency?"
Constantly. Just, not everyone is aware. You must pay attention to notice.
8. "How are research findings shared with others?"
Nurses talk to each other 24/7. We always have and always will. Too bad, the powers that be do not get it. Again, "if is works, it works."
9. "What do you think needs to be researched?"
Everything. Just because You think it's common sense, does not mean it's true. Ultimately, I think we need to research "What is nursing." That is, how does healing differ from curing?
