need help after passing NCLEX-RN in New Mexico

Published

Good day!

Hi, I'm a nurse from the Philippines and I recently passed the NCLEX-RN last July 16, 2010. I applied for licensure in New Mexico. I found out that they no longer release hard copy licenses and I don't know how I'm gonna be able to claim mine. My license will expire in 2yrs from now. I haven't taken my IELTS, haven't applied for visa screening, and I don't have an employer yet. I need some advice.. what should I do next?

There are a few states that no longer issue a hard license.

Next stage would be to find a employer I would suggest you hold off applying for vsc until your PD is getting closer as vsc is only valid for 5 years and then you need to renew it. I would image all you need to do is meet renewal requirements and pay any fees to maintain your license

may i know what the meaning of PD is?

so, i will hold the VSC application for the mean time that means i wont take IELTS for now as well. would that be right?

PD is Priority date and is the date your immigration application was submitted and accepted by US immigration

thanks for your reply..:)

i have another question..

i just want to seek some advice.. i recently passed the NCLEX-RN in New Mexico and found out that they no longer release hard copy licenses and requires CEU for renewal. my license is valid for 2 years. as of now, i can't go out to NM due to recession and im afraid that my license might expire and that i would have to retake the examination, which i dont want to happen.

by browsing through the net, i have read that New York does release hard copy licenses and also they do not require any CEU.. is that right? do i have the right info? please correct me if im wrong..

now, im thinking of endorsing to NY. cause aside from the fact that they do release licenses, i have a relative living there. and also, because i wont be able to go out of the country yet due to recession im planning to transfer when my license in NM is close to expiry.. am i doing the right decision?

please do help me.. im doing this on my own and im really having a hard time deciding..

your replies will be really appreciated. thanks in advance..:)

CEU can be done online and as long as accepted by the BON (should state on BON website accepted CEU providers) I see no reason why you can't keep your NM license up to date as long as you pay fees. Not many states issue hard license these days as employers can verify online that you are licensed or not

even if i don't have any relative in NM, will it be better if i pursue on renewing my license there than transferring to NY? cause the only reason that i applied there (NM) is because the processing for licensure is faster than in other states. my original plan after passing is to endorse to another state, but am i doing the right decision?

I can't say whether you are doing the right decision, only you can make that decision

i understand.. thanks for your replies anyway.:)
