I dont know what to do. I have been in an excellereted ADN program for a year now and really think I want to go into cosmetology school. I have 12 months left in my ADN program but I dont know if it's for me. There are NO positions out there right now and its really scarey. Maybe I should just go after something I have wanted to do my whole life and not stay in something for job security (or lack there of at the moment). Do you think the demand for nurses will turn around? Would I be making a big mistake to go to cosmetology school, then finish out nursing latter???? Please help me! Has anyone else ever felt this way?

Hi, i am a cosmetologist and have been for 13yrs. I wanted to go to nursing school when i was 18 but knew i was not ready to commit the time it takes to go through nursing school, so i went to cosmetology school instead. cosmetolgy is a fun career, although pay is not so great unless you have a huge clientell. If you are aready in a program i would probaly go ahead and finish it, but if you are unhappy or do not think nursing is for you go ahead pursue your dream whatever that may be. Because i can tell you from experience it is not easy to go back to school when you have been out for 10yrs and have little ones running around. This is a decision only you can make. I wish you the best whatever your decision.

With 12 months left, I would finish and get your degree, if it turns out you cannot find a job (though I know southern parts of the states are in high demand, not close to you unfortunately), then go to cosmetology school. I just think it would be a good idea to have your degree and that way you can always fall to it if you find a great job or need more money than cosmetology might offer you (I don't know anything about money figures there but I'm sure you do). Good luck!

I would go ahead and finish your degree because if you drop out now then when it is time to go back you may have to start all over or the information won't be as fresh when you get back into. but more than anything, ask yourself WHY you want to change? do you not enjoy nursing? can you not see yourself doing this for the rest of your life? nursing school is not fun by any means, but i strongly believe that being a nurse will be a lot different once you have a job..plus i also beleive that the people you work for and with really help make a job worthwhile. i would finish up, and if you get a job and don't like it then move on to cosmetology..but don't give up when you have come this far
