Need Help on NET at Essex County College

Published

Hi All,

I'm supposed to be taking the Nursing Entrance Exam this upcoming September at Essex County College in order to be accepted to their Nursing Program(I'm hoping). I know the program is VERY competitive and I want to be able to do well on the test so I can get into the program. Any suggestions on what I need to study??? Anyone has taken this test? What's on it?? Do they ask any science questions? I got a book at Barnes&Nobles to help me practice. Are there any other books out there that will help me?

I currently have a 3.75 GPA and I completed all of the pre-requirements so this test is my last step. Any word of advice will be appreciated!:)

I took the NET at another school. It was pretty basic. Reading and math. No science.

Math - high school algebra, fractions, the stuff you thought you'd never need to know... All I used (and needed as it turned out) to prep for the test was this website,

http://www.sosmath.com/algebra/algebra.html. I said "hmmmm" a few times during the test but did fine. Funny enough, nursing school math is much simpler than the NET math. Go figure.

Reading - junior high school speed and comprehension. If you read 500 words per minute or faster, you'll be able to review the passage at least twice before starting the questions. They asked about content and meaning. Very easy.

Hey there!

Took the NET test last year ( March I think)...got myslef ready with the ECC provided course for the PREP NET test! You need to READ all the posts in the Blue Zone ( nursing Dept.), or just speak to other people and inquire of when and where it's given. It was like 5 weeks, at night. Pretty good- especially the English part! Math- easy, straight forward. Get the NET test book. I don't think they had it in our book store, but I got it on line-CHEAPER! Very helpful. That's it. It's not HARD, it's common sense, very basic info. When they grade it, ECC focuses on MATH ( the meds calculations are everywhere), they figured that if you suck in English, should you pass this ( the NET), you will eventually fail in Nursing- becasue it's all critical thinking.

Once you get in to NUR107- get ready. Your head will be spinning 360 in no time. You need to stay on top of your game- at ALL TIMES. Don't have people bother you, or intimidate you...do your own thing! What works for others, might not work for you--->my case.

Oh...don't listen to the gossip of entry to the Program. They focus on your GPA overall, NET Score, and especially your grade in APs and Chem. If you're OK on that, just relax! You'll be fine! Do your work- it's hard, but doable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck to you!;)
