I just had my very first med surg test yesterday and all I can say is WHOA!!! THAT had to be the WORST test so far in Nursing school...the instructor just stopped grading papers , told us to go to break and when we got back in we had a group test(4 to a group) if you made an A you got 8 pts added to your score..B 6t and C 4 pt anything else no pts. Well 80 is passing in my class so It did help some people but me...I have NEVER made that bad in my life since in NS...I made a 60 so the extra pts brought me up to a 66 but STILL............I do not know what happened? I have study every night til at least 1:00am in the morning...I have done practice questions and everything else....AND I get this grade even the instructor asked what happened???? I am totally dumbfounded by it...did I study too much ...Did I read more into the question then it asked? I have broke one bad habit about changing answers after I finish my test and that has helped a lot. Anybody have any advice about studying for the next test..it is Respiratory and oxygenation or just med surg in general???
Thanks!!:heartbeat

When I took Med Surge it really helped to outline the following and I would use it as a studyguide for exams A)Name of disease/disorder B) Pathophysiology of disease/disorder C) Signs and Symptoms D) Nursing Interventions/implications along with any of the meds used to treat each disease/disorder. Hope this helps

So many people think I'm nuts, but honestly reading the textbook helps me sooo much. It may be time consuming and for some people it doesn't work but give it a shot because I can't tell you how many times I've recalled a question on the test from reading the book. More importantly, if you look over your notes and then read the textbook material that your notes cover you'll be better off. It's most important to focus on the material that you'll be tested on.
Test taking skills also play a huge role, try getting a book though amazon that helps with test taking for nursing students. I did that and I saw a big change in my grades. I just passed med-surg and all of that helped me a lot.

Hi!
Im also struggling in med-surg, too. Right now, what is getting me thru the semester is med surg reviews and rationales. I got the book from amazon. I read the textbook, esp, the charts and tables. I create charts of each disease, that includes, the patho, clinical manifestations, diagnostics, meds, teaching, non sx management, sx management. On top of all of that I have a loud and outgoing study group. We are all on the same boat. It is great to surround yourself with people who have the same drive as you do. This is the time to place your pride away and ask help from others. I wish you the best of luck. Tell yourself that youve read it, seen it, and talked about it. So there is no way youll fail! Good luck, again.
