Need help making some SMART goals for psych clinical

Published

Hello,

I have just started my psych clinical rotation and I am required to journal some of my goals for this clinical.

My instructions are:Make sure goals are SMART (specific, measureable, achievable, realistic and timed) and that they help meet one of the primary goals of the clinical - to develop and practice the skills described in the textbook.

Can anyone give me some examples of some good ones? I think I could come up with several for med-surg but am drawing a blank on goals I want to set for psych.

You do it the same way you did med-surg. Unfortunately I am not a psych nurse so I can not help very much, but if you scan through your book or syllabus you will find a couple of skills you can write up. Below is just an example of how I THINK it should go as I have been taught to do them for leadership. I am not in your class so ask your instructor for some examples if you need them, also you can search the internet for nursing smart goals. Good luck.

S-Will learn about ECT and indications for such and be able to prepare and recover patients for procedure.

M-Will be able to verbalize the possible indications for pts to receive ECT and will prepare and recover patients with 100% accuracy.

A-Achievable within the psych rotation (OR Achievable withindays of didactic portion of ECT training

R-This goal is realistic while training on the psych floor

T-Within first patient (OR Within days) after didactic portion of ECT training
