Need help from Experienced Correctional Nurse

Published

Hello fellow correctional nurses!

I am currently taking an online course to become a Certified Correctional Nurse. My first assignment is to find information about the following from another correctional nurse. If anyone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it!! Please accept my thanks ahead of time. :studyowl:

"How long was your training prior to working in the prison?"

"Do you feel that the self-defense course offered prepared you for an inmate attack?"

"How would you react to being taken hostage?"

"Have you ever had to perform CPR on an employee inside the prison and if so, what happened?"

I have moved this to the Student Forum for this Service. I have also added in the title, "Experienced Correctional Nurse."

Good luck to you!

1- "How long was your training prior to working in the prison?"

2- "Do you feel that the self-defense course offered prepared you for an inmate attack?"

3- "How would you react to being taken hostage?"

4- "Have you ever had to perform CPR on an employee inside the prison and if so, what happened?"

1- I had worked in corrections, primarily, as an Agency Nurse. My trianing was minimal. When I loved in Wyoming, I was a brief employee, and the training was approximately about a week in length. The training was not a how to but of the nuts and bolts of paperwork and understanding what services was available for the inmates.

2- No, I never received one. I was told to always have a guard with me an that is exactly what I did.

3- Scream my head off, do what needed to be done, try to keep the atmosphere calm.

4- No, but I did send many into the hospital.
