Need Encouragement--Unexplained RPL.

I'm currently a pre-nursing student and will hopefully be accepted to an accelerated BSN program this year. I mainly "lurk" on this site but I am always encouraged by the wonderful people on this site.

My story is that I'm currently going through my 4th miscarriage. I have no children. My husband and I have been on this journey for almost 2 years now. We both have had a battery of tests and there have been no problems found. We've had genetic testing (on us and the "products of conception"), thyroid tests, clotting tests, autoimmune tests and just about every test you can imagine. The miscarriages have happened at various times: 15 weeks, 8 weeks, 7 weeks, chemical. We've been seeing a highly successful and respected RE in the area for the past few months and all he can tell us is bad luck. We have no problem getting pregnant and not really a problem carrying the pregnancy because 3 have been missed miscarriages and we had to take medical intervention to get the process started. We are both relatively young. I'm 24 and my husband is 30. Neither of us have any medical problems or take medication for anything.

Only a few people know what we are going through and I don't know anyone whose had this problem. The people that I have told can't relate. I often hear hurtful things like just relax and stop trying so hard. It's not their fault they don't understand and who would want to.

I guess I'm just looking for some encouraging stories or someone to relate to. The reason why I've chosen nursing is because of the wonderful staff who treated me during my first miscarriage. It was the first time I'd ever been to the hospital for myself and they were very supportive. I look forward to your replies. Thank you.

All I can say is try to surround yourself with supportive people and know that you are not alone. I have two healthy children but my 2nd pregnancy was twins and I lost one (our only girl) to a birth defect when the twins were 33 days old. Since then, I have had four miscarriages 2 chem, 1 mm at discovered at 9 wks, and 1mm discovered at 11 wks. The most recent was this past summer. Like you we had all the tests. Our daughter's probelm was not genetic but we did find out after finally talking an RE into doing karyotyping that my husband has a balanced translocation. So we have a 33% shot with each conception. I desperately want another child but I really don't think it's going to happen (naturally anyway). I'm almost 34 and my husband will be 43 this year so the clock is ticking.

I'm sorry I don't have a bullet of wisdom for you. It stinks just stinks. Especially when there are those that can get pregnant and have chidren so easily and don't want them or treat them like burdans.

Hang in there and know you aren't alone.

You are not alone, that is all I can really tell you. I had fours losses in one year and it was exhausting. But my sister had 6 before having her first, then got pregnant naturally and carried her second to term with no issues. There was never any medical reason found, although we both had great care through our respective REs. The one I used is recognized nationally as one of the best in his field. Unfortunately successful conception and pregancy is still poorly understood.

If you want support there are sites out there where you can talk to others. Fertility Friend is a busy one and very supportive. My heart goes out to you and your husband.
