Need career advice

First time using this, hello. I'm an LPN in a LTC facility and am starting to dislike it more and more each day. I've tried switching jobs, changing shifts, and considered continuing for an RN... All of which didn't feel right. I've been doing some soul searching and came to the conclusion nursing isn't a good fit for me. Yes, some of the stuff I dislike such as the hours, I should have educated myself on before I started in this field. I know I can't do this for the next 30 some years. Has this happened to anyone you know? Did they go back to school for something else which made them happier?

I currently have a co-worker who has only been a LPN for three years and is now going back to school for healthcare administration. She is a great nurse but has decided nursing, RN or LPN, is just not for her. There is no shame in realizing nursing is not right for you. In fact, I wish more nurses who are miserable in the profession would admit they are just not happy being a nurse and do what makes them happy. Easier said than done I know, when there are underlying circumstances. IMHO, life is too short to spend 30-40 years doing something one dreads day in and day out.

many options out there for you. Bedside nursing hasn't been my friend all the time, and ER was much better for me. I did what I had to do in order to go to grad school. Other areas outside of the acute care hosp are also open. You can always just choose a non nursing job, see how that goes. See if it makes you happy.

good luck
