need advice

I took a position at a community hospital 8 weeks ago, because I thought I needed a change of pace, going to 3 twelve hr shifts from 5 days a week (40 hrs).

My family hasnt adjusted very well to the new shift, it is a longer commute, for less pay. i do enjoy the work, but an oppty arose at my former employer for substantially more money. The sticky situation is that I am just coming off orientation in the next two weeks and I can start within the next two weeks at my former employer. Since I am on orientation, it seems futile for me to work out my orientation, but I do want to be professional about it. How should I handle this? It feels awkward but I could use the money so I feel I should go.

I would just say that it is not working out the way you planned. Short and simple.

You need to do what is best for you and your family. It is unfortunate that you are in this siutation but I doubt an employer would feel a sense of guilt if they decided you were not a fit after orientation.

Thanks for response. do you feel that a standard 2 week notice is in order, even though I am technically still on orientation and not included in the head count?

I've never been in this situation but, honestly, I can't imagine they'd have any desire to pay you for an additional two weeks of orientation when they're not going to get anything out of the investment.

I don't know all the details of yours situation ,of course...While I agree that you must do what is best for you and your family, that thr employer would have no problem firing you without notice...you should also, think about the reasons you left your previous job in the first place before you go back. GOOD LUCK
