hi everyone!
i'm new here...well i registered a long time ago but haven't participated in the fourms for awhile.
i'm going through a very frustrating time right now! i took my cna class this summer, passed with an "a", and took my state certification 2 weeks ago. i understand that i need my state certification before i can expect a chance at a job as a cna, which is fine. i look forward to finally working in the profession i have chosen!
my frustration is about being accepted into a nursing program. the school i currently attend only offers the program once a year, in the fall. i'm one class short to make the deadline for next fall already!!!!! needless to say, i have "shopped" around for more schools and programs within a reasonable driving distance from me, and all of the other schools (6 to be exact) told me that i may as well forget it because i am "out of district." seems they would want me since the money is much more for tuition, but i guess not.
has or is anyone else experiencing or experienced this?? is it better for me to go to a university for a bsn instead of waiting so long for an associates r.n. program?
i'm 37 years old, and i did things backwards...had kids first and now i am trying to finish school. any advice would be great!!! thank you!!!

Good luck to you.
Do whatever is the quickest. Having a BSN might be an advantage for the future, so if you can get that sooner, I would say go for that.

let's think about this.
what exact class are you short? you don't have to sit in a classroom to take a class. if you are short english lit, or psych or ? you can clep out or test out of a lot of first and second year college classes. you study the text and then just sign up for the test, usually given at a local school. look on the clep (www.collegeboard.com ) and www.excelsior.edu sites for the list of zillions of courses you can just test out of.
this would get that class out of they way asap and you can be eligible for the school you want.
just an idea from someone who clep 'd out of 22 credits worth.
thanks you guys!
i have an appointment at purdue university calumet tomorrow to get the ball rolling for my enrollment there in their bsn program. i'm only short one math class to have made the deadline for the community college i now attend, and had intended on staying at until i realized it would be 2009 before i would be eligible again, the school only has the nursing program once a year!!!!!!!!!
i did the math, and i will have 2 years toward my bsn under my belt before i am even considered for the community college program, and that's still an if they decided to accept me. my grades are good enough, but the uncertainity isn't worth it i guess. having a bsn will be something i will be proud of too, so i guess it all works out pretty much!!!!:)
wish me luck!! i will be here often now too!!!
