Need Advice: Stay as a float or move to a home unit?

Hey guys,

I've been a float CNA in a local hospital for awhile now and I absolutely love it. I love going around and meeting nurses and doctors and love being able to watch various procedures from all different specialties and disciplines. I feel like I've been able to do a lot the past few years. Being a float has also enabled me to see what unit in the hospital I really enjoy more than others. There is this one floor where the staff is amazing and supportive and since it's an ortho floor, I think it's a good combination of sick/healing. Anyway, there is a weekends position available that I am meeting with the nurse manager on Monday to talk about. If I were to work there, I would inevitably have to transfer from the float team to and move to my new home unit. Part of me is all for this because after I finish nursing school, I think the transition from CNA to RN on this unit will hopefully be seamless. The other part of me loves to float too much and will miss it. I also love my weekends off, as I'll be starting nursing school soon and hope to utilize my weekends to get the most of my social life as much as I can before I pretty much won't have one. But between the time that I start nursing school and now...I think the position on my favorite unit won't be open anymore.

I think being a float, there will still be more flexibility later on as well if I wanted to change my shift to accomodate my schedule...but I really love this unit.

you have to do what will make you happy. I think that flexiability thing may be a issue. So think about that. i think going in every day and knowing where you will be has its advantages to. i wish you the best. sorry if i am not any help.

It kinda seems like a win-win situation. You'll be happy either way. So you'll have to look at it from a practical standpoint... which is better for your career and which one has a better schedule? Do they pay the same?

I think I'm going to try and balance out both. I'll probably accept the new position and decrease my hours on the float pool so that I can still work it.
