Need advice! Semi new student.

Hi everybody. I am just a little confused right now on what to do for applying to nursing school. I am 18 and thought I had it all figured out at first. I knew which colleges I was going to apply to and which pre-reqs/gen ed classes I was going to take. However, here recently I found out that I am going to be moving.

So, now I no longer know what to do. I am moving to much more populated area a little outside Kansas city. I'v looked into the schools there, but from what I'v read they are very competitive. I am no longer sure if I should try and go for a BSN or an ADN? I would like to apply to most the schools in the area, but most of the schools require different pre-reqs from each other and from what I have now.

I have English Composition 1, A & P, General Pyschology, Intermediate Algebra, General Psychology, Intro to Nutrition, Intro to Sociology, and I have also completed the Nurse Aide Class. I have a 3.85 GPA.

After that long wall of text, I'll will get to the questions that I want to ask. I just wanted you guys to have a little background info. My first question is; are BSN programs easier to get into? I'v read a lot on the forums that the Community Colleges are generally highly competitive to get into because they are cheaper. I would also like to know if I got the last one or two different pre-reqs and maintained the same GPA or higher how competitive will I be at these bigger schools? My last question is; how do you guys and girls stay motivated? I feel so lost at the moment, I feel like I have wasted time because some classes aren't worth anything at other schools. I'm not sure if I'll get accepted into these other schools.

I have wanted to be a Nurse for a very long time now, and don't want to give up on my goal of becoming one. The advice of all you guys would really help a lot. Thanks in advance.

3.85 GPA is really good! I live in Lincoln, Nebraska and the ADN at the local community college has a 2 year wait list, whereas I was accepted to a BSN program (1 of 4 here) to start next spring. I think the only reason the CC is harder to get into is because the requisites are a little lower (2.0 GPA for the CC, 3.0 for the BSN) and the program isn't as long. My GPA is nowhere near a 3.85 and I was accepted. I say apply for as much as you can!! Good luck!

First of all, congrats on the gpa! Second, I live in northern Ohio and our CC is a lot easier to get into...my friend got in for fall with a 2.9. Our universities on the other hand, you need at least a 3.4 to even be considered. Good luck to you!

I see. Thanks a bunch for the advice and encouragement!

IF you can do the BSN, go for it! The job market is getting really tough for ADNs, but BSN grads are getting hired right away.
