Hello,
I'm on here seeking some advice. I am currently in the flex practical nursing
program at Centennial College. I am in semester 1B and not doing so good,
there is a possiblity that I might fail my pathophysiology class. If I do
fail, I wont be able to enter back into the program until summer 2015. I
have been thinking of transferring to Seneca's Practical Nursing program part time.
I would like to get some feed back from some nursing students currently at Seneca or past students. Any advice is welcomed. But only positive advice.
Thank You

How do you think changing schools will help? The cirriculum is pretty much the same and you will have to deal with patho there as well. Better idea is to get help and figure out where you need to focus to imporove. Have you asked for extra help at your current school? Most of them offer help. If you are not doing well it is best to get help as soon as possible instead of waiting until it is too late to save your grade. Good luck.

Like loriangel14 said, changing schools is NOT the answer. Patho is a huge part of nursing, and you must have a good grasp of it to not only finish the program, but to pass the CPNRE and to be a good nurse. I'm not saying you must be an expert, but you must be able to understand what is going on with your patient inside their body, so that you can anticipate what might happen to them and understand why the interventions you are doing are the correct ones.
Get help. Approach your instructor, and ask who can help you. Many schools do peer tutoring, where you can get paired with a student in an upper semester who did well in the class, and can help you to understand the concepts. You can also try checking out books like "pathophysiology for dummies" (not calling you a dummy at all - those books are just often helpful at explaining things in simpler terms, which might be helpful at this point).
Good job on recognizing that you are in trouble - that is the first step and key to succeeding! You still have time to turn this around, so first thing tomorrow, talk to your teacher! LOTS of nurses struggle with patho initially, but then it kind of "clicks" with a lot of hard work.
I wish you the best of luck! Don't give up!

Why until summer 2015? Are you at risk of failing 2 core nursing courses? You are already in the flex program so the course load is lighter than the standard full time program. Seneca's part time program costs more overall because its not funded the same like full time programs. Speak to your program coordinator for the best advice. They will most likely encourage you to stay but the decision will always be yours to make. If you plan to bridge into the BScN, transferring may hinder your chances.

I am an IEN and my friend is in the same program as you. If I were you I would take the advise and get some tutoring and extra help from your instructors. There are patho students from university who can help tutor you for very reasonable price. It is important that you put in the effort with tutoring and you will see big results.
