Need Advice, Please!!

Ok, so I have been admitted to nursing school and my criminal check of course has something on it and I am freaked. I was very young, very stupid and I let some friends talk me into doing something I knew was wrong. Shoplifting, is a minor deal but I need to know if that is going to be a barrier to getting licensed. HELP!!

It is up to your individual BON to decide. They consider each case on a case by case basis. Best thing is for you to contact them.........

You should not have a problem but it is best to check with them. As only they can make the decision.

Thanks, I e-mailed them right away. Hopefully I'll hear back soon. I know its a really minor thing but I just don't want anything to stand in the way of my becoming a nurse.

You will need to write a letter about it when you go for your temporary permit and your license. Be prepared to have it set you back about a month. I am 37, when I was 19 I worked at a bank as a teller. A customer blamed me for money missing in his account. He had a blank deposit receipt that he showed four months past him supposedly depositing the money. It had no fingerprints. It was his word, he was in his thirties, against my "teen" word. They wanted me to pay him the money....I was long gone and in school. I refused and got a lawyer. My lawyer was horrible, young himself. I worked 5pm to midnight, to pay him. Then the court asked if I wanted to go on ARD. I said no, I didn't do it. Well....I ended up losing. The jury believed this man over me. Point very simple. Life is NOT fair....even though I had thought it should be since I did not do it. Well, 19 yrs later I still have to explain this misdemeanor to all prosepective employers. I also had a hand wringing time with the nursing board. It is just the way it is. When I die I will ask Why did you allow this....I am sure he has a reason I do not know about. But what I would like to tell you is things happen in life, go on. Be prepared to explain and then be done with it. Never be dishonest and you will jump over this hurdle. :) Bindy

Thank you! Its nice to know I'm not the only one out there. The Director of my program was so nice about it! I think she understood that I am not the same person and that we all make mistakes when we are young and stupid.
