Long story short, I have an associates degree from a university and stopped going to school after that. I worked in sales for a few years before I realized I made a mistake and wanted to go back to school. I never found what I wanted to do and studying reflected my lack of discipline as I have a 2.5 GPA. Which means I have some class retakes and science prerequisites to take before I can even think about applying to a program.
I have 2 options. Take 1.5 - 2 years to get caught up and take the require prerequisites. Which includes retaking classes to get my GPA up and then apply to programs and hope I make it in, which will then take my time to completion to 4 years in best case scenario. And that is just for my associates. Or go to a private, for-profit school that'll accept me and I can start and be done in 20 months with an ASN.
I have done loads of research on the college I am thinking of going to. It is called Ameritech and located in Utah. According to state pass rates this college has NCLEX pass rates that rival or surpass nearly all other institutions in the state. They've been around since 1979 and are accredited through ACEN. I called the ACEN and asked about their accreditation status and they said this college is going to maintain status and is not up for a renewal until 2023. So national accreditation is there.
I can get in and get done in 20 months, but that leads to another concern which is regional accreditation. This college doesn't have it, so really my only option for RN to BSN at a non-profit is through Western Governors University. Which is fine with me but from the sounds of it if I want to become an NP or CRNA I may run into some speed bumps.
I am leaning towards the private, for-profit route just so I can get done. I am not old but I am 27, married, with no kids and I would prefer to get done fast and start working.
Let me have it! Good idea? Bad Idea? What do you think I should do?
