I need some advise PLEASE!!
I had surgery last Wednesday the 14th. I had a cystoscope [looked at bladder] and hyteroscope [Looked at uterus]. Also had my urethra worked on to keep me from stress incontinence.
My problem is I can't pee without cathing myself!! I get chills and could tear apart the NYC phonebook with my bare hands!! I don't have a fever, just pain, frequency, urgency etc consistent with a UTI. I am taking:
Darvocet N 100 1 to 2 tablets PO Q6H prn for pain.
Cephalexin 500 mg capsules Take 1 capsule PO tid
Urecholine 25 mg tablets Take 1 tablet PO qid
Pyridium 200 mg tablets Take 1 tablet PO qid.
I got the Pyridium today and it has cut down on the pain. However, I only trickle when I pee and then I have to cath to empty my bladder.
Questions:
1. How long should I go before cathing. Right now it is about every 2 hrs. I wake up in pain and have to relieve it, but then I hurt from the cath.
2. I start my senior yr in Nursing in 5 weeks...will I be able to go to school or did I just royally screw myself?
3. How long should it take to get full function back from this type of surgery?
Thanks!!

Been there and done that!! So I know how you feel. My doc gave me some great advice, this was after the 3rd phone call and I thought I was hemorraging after my first BM at home. He told me to take my pain med and go to bed. When I woke up. It was time to do my in and out cath, by this time the pyridium had started working so that I didn't have that "urgent" feeling anymore. Time does help and you have that on your side by giving yourself 5 weeks before starting back to school. Remember, pyridium does turn everything, and I mean everything, underwear included so no good stuff for a while, orange!!! Good luck
