need advice from fellow school rn re: assault

Published

HI all

this is a bit off track but i need some sound advice and you guys always help me out......... so yesterday i am sitting in the health room at work, and i get a call from the RN at my sons school. long story short, he was in shop and some kid took a metal ruler and whacked him in the AHEM........ HARD. she iced it and called me and i brought him home......... not a serious injury however, here is where i need the advice..... should i have the kid arrested for assault? should i just let the state trooper there handle it??????? there is no school so i today so i am just waiting to hear from them. btw, these r sophomores in hs, ya think someone would have helped the kid when he was down........................ shame on them............. i am MAD at all of them. help rdsxfn

ps correct me if i am wrong but had this happened on public property, the kid would have been arrested,YES? :o

I think not taking him to the ER would undermine the police's willingness to intervene.

How is your son doing? How old is he? What does he want the outcome ot be? Was this in a pattern of behavior of the perpetrator or a one time incident? Is your son worried about his safety? Did the nurse report this incident ? The shop teacher? How are these incidents handled internally? Is there a police liaison officer at this school?

I'd hold off on getting law enforcement involved until you see how the school handles it and I certainly would heavily weigh your son's preference for how to handle it.

Let us know the outcome?

thanks........... hes 15... i think he just wants to forget it happened..... good advice :)
