Need Advice Before Midnight Tonight On What Is The Better Hospital To Learn At

Published

Hello all. Hope your weekend is going well, I can't believe it was snowing in March! :) Here is my dilemma... Tonight I have registeration at midnight. There are two clinical classes to choose from. One is at St. Joe's in Joliet and the other is at Advocate Christ in Oak Lawn. My question is, what is the better hospital to learn from as a student nurse?

Here are the pros and cons....

St. Joe's: Closer

Christ: I would be with more of the girls I know from my previous classes and with my clinical partner.

If I picked St. Joe's, this would be my schedule:

Mon - Clinical Class at 8am and then Pharm at 2pm

Tues - Off

Wed- Patho 9am

Thurs - Clinical in the daytime for 6 or 8 hrs

Fri - same as Thursday

This schedule is nice because I get that day off to study for a Patho exam when I need to.

With Christ, this would be my schedule:

Mon- Pharm

Tues-Clinical Nights for 6 to 8 hrs

Wed - Same as Tues

Thurs- Patho 9am

Fri-Clinical class 8am

With this schedule, I do not get a day off and I would be working all wednesday night and because Patho is suppose to be our hardest class, I worry about fitting in the time to study if I am working all Wed and have class early Thurs.

The problem is....I hear Christ is a teaching hospital and so that is better for a student nurse. Also, it may sound silly and I know I should focus on myself and what is best for me, but I would like to stay with my clinical partner who I have come to know. Being able to talk to her about classes helps a lot. I think she is going to do the Christ schedule because her mom tells her that since it says Advocate, it is a teaching school and she should go there. Is this true? Am I making the wrong choice by wanting the St. Joe's schedule?

I really need some advice and any advice would help a lot! Thank you!!

I know the rotation with Christ is harder but if you can do it I would go with Christ. St. Joe's is a nice hospital but it's small. Christ is huge and there are tons of opportunities to learn.

Having been a patient at St. Joe's in Joliet, I would say, "Run like the wind!"

I agree, Christ will offer you more experience and learning opportunities.
