NE1 have any info on broward community college nursing program?

I just recently learned that a friend and I have both been accepted to broward community college. I wont be attending because i'm already taking classes at Barry and have been accepted into their nursing program. but as for my friend she's torn between going to broward community college and keiser. the reason i ask about BCC is because i've heard terrible things about their program and this seems to be much more than just rumors.

I attended open sessions for other schools nursing programs such as keiser and city college and both programs brought up bcc's program and how they were under scrutiny because a large number of the students were either dropping out of the program or not passing the licensing test. when i asked an advisor about this he said they were changing the admission process because alot of students didnt deserve to be in the program. then during the summer i was taking a class with a rn who graduated from bcc and asked her what was going on with the school. she said the reason why bcc was changing up their admission process was b/c while she was there they were under federal investigation b/c someone who worked in the nursing department(receptionist) was selling papers to students. so far it seems all i'm hearing are negative things.in addition i've also heard they're understaffed, thus overcrowded classes.

Can anyone give any insight into this? my friend is contemplating bcc because it's public therefore alot cheaper while keiser is private.

Its going well so far, at least for me. I got a B in NP1 and I have a B so far in NP2. It is crazy and hectic, but I have more of a life than people told me I would have. However, I don't work (but I am a mom) so maybe that has something to do with it. How are your classes coming along?

great.. getting an A in chemistry.. so my GPA will be a 3.36 thats 9 points plus 1 for broward so i will have 10 points. guess i will be at the north campus for the summer.. cus nothing is happening at central so far.. my friend toldme that north is easier now a days

I don't know if its easier, but perhaps we get more direction. Like my friend @ central has no idea what to study on each topic, so she has to read the entire chapter top to bottom on the topics and hope for the best. She asks her instructor questions, she's then told to go read the book, which she's already done, but needs some clarification, ya know? My instructor gives a good lecture, she's very good at answering any questions you're unsure of, and what we're tested on is straight from our objectives (theres a module you buy in the bookstore and its a list of objectives that we should know on each topic). Now, the questions are not simple by any means. You have to know the information, but its not just rote memorization of the info and then spitting it back out. You can't just memorize objectives and think you're home free. You have to understand how to properly apply the info as a nurse. I just use the objectives as a guide but you really need to have good critical thinking skills.

Thats great about your A in chem. Keep it up and good luck.

thanks sunny, so i guess we will see each other at campus one day, it felt good going to get my application yesterday:-) now I have to worry bout that health core mad at myself that i didn't do it earlier!!! i am playing it so close. "T" from BCC said she thinks sheridan gives you the certificate the same day.. and i have to do micro in Jan... i am taking it at dade i think though. I dont know any good teachers at BCC for that class,

I guess sherdian might give it to you the same day but they did not for my group. We had to come back like a week later. I guess if its a special circumstance, you can ask the instructor if she can get you yours.....I'm not sure how close you're playing it. But the course is VERY easy and I'm very glad I didn't have to go to central campus for 8 weeks for 6 hrs a pop! BC doesn't have very many choices for the class as it is, so you're pretty much stuck with whoever.

HI! I'm new to the board and new to the area. We just moved to Broward County in July. Anyway, I've been looking at some of the information on LPN to RN transition program. Is it a long process to get into the program? Any recommedations? I'm not sure where to go and who I need to speak with.

graveyardlpn-

the process to get into the lpn-transition program can be long depending on the time of year someone is applying. The LPN program only admits in May, so if its July you have a long time to wait. If its March.....well, you get the idea.

Have you taken any pre-req classes yet?
